ITPEC FE Morning October 2023 Question 70

Which of the following is an explanation of the IoT (Internet of Things)?

Explanation

Giving communication functions to all kinds of objects and connecting them to the Internet — IoT collects and analyses their data for decision-making and automated control.

In IoT (Internet of Things), not only computers and phones but also appliances, cars, machines and sensors get communication functions. Connected to the Internet, they can be recognised automatically and measured remotely, and the large volumes of data they send are analysed to support decisions and control devices automatically.

Answer (d)

Why not others:

  • •(a) — a seller posts an item and the highest bidder within the time limit wins: an Internet auction, a C to C form of e-commerce
  • •(b) — a facility with managed lines, server maintenance, air conditioning and power backup for Internet-connected servers is an Internet data centre
  • •(c) — banner advertisements and e-mail advertisements that lead to an advertiser's site are Internet advertising

Key rule: IoT means things beyond IT devices are networked so that their data can be collected, analysed and used to control them.
