About the FE exam
The Fundamental Information Technology Engineer examination is derived from Japan's national IT Engineer Examination, aimed at candidates with working IT knowledge who are already active in engineering, software development, or systems roles.
Since April 2024 the exam runs for 190 min on a single day, split into 2 sessions — 90 minutes for Subject A and 100 minutes for Subject B — with a short break in between. The format is shorter than before and switched fully to pseudocode — no more Java or C specifics.
Subject A — Morning. A 90-minute multiple-choice paper with 60 compulsory questions covering core IT concepts, short numerical calculations, and logical reasoning across technology, management, and strategy. All questions carry equal weight.
Subject B — Afternoon. A 100-minute paper with 20 scenario questions on algorithms, program tracing, debugging, and reading pseudocode and flowcharts through to the correct output. Questions are weighted by difficulty.
ITPEC Practice covers every past FE paper from 2018–2025 for free, with instant feedback and timed mock exams. The exam is offered in Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, Bangladesh, and Malaysia — and results are mutually recognised with Japan's national FE examination.
