About the FE exam
The Fundamental Information Technology Engineer examination is derived from Japan's national IT Engineer Examination, aimed at candidates with working IT knowledge who are already active in engineering, software development, or systems roles.

Subject A
Morning · 90 min · 60 questions
Multiple choice on core IT concepts, short calculations and logical reasoning across technology, management and strategy. All questions carry equal weight.
Subject B
Afternoon · 100 min · 20 questions
Scenarios on algorithms, program tracing and debugging: read the pseudocode or flowchart through to the correct output. Questions are weighted by difficulty.
Since April 2024 both papers are taken on a single day with a short break in between. The format is shorter than before and switched fully to pseudocode, with no more Java or C specifics.
