ITPEC IP April 2023 Question 96
Which of the following is a company that provides access to the Internet?
Explanation
ISP — the Internet Service Provider is the company that connects users to the Internet.
An ISP links its customers' homes and offices to the Internet over its lines and equipment and usually assigns their IP addresses; many also offer e-mail and Web hosting. Every other service in the options is reached through such a connection.
Answer (b)
Why not others:
- •(a) ASP — an Application Service Provider offers application software running on its servers over the Internet
- •(c) SaaS — Software as a Service is the cloud model of using software over a network, not a provider of access
- •(d) SNS — a social networking service is an online community where users share posts and messages
Key rule: The ISP provides the connection to the Internet; ASP, SaaS and SNS are services used over that connection.
