Data mining — analysing large volumes of data to find patterns and relationships that nobody specified in advance.

Data mining applies statistical and machine-learning techniques, such as association rules, clustering, classification and regression, to large stores of data, often a data warehouse. A classic result is an association such as customers who buy one product also tending to buy another, found in the data rather than tested as a prior hypothesis.
